India suffers from a
severe shortage of skilled professionals. More than 95% of the workforce have
no qualification at all. Government campaigns such as the Clean Ganga Project or Make in India have further increased the need for skilled labor: 300 million skilled workers are currently missing. The shortage of qualified workers with technical know-how is becoming a problem for companies in the environmental sector in India.
At the Capacity Development Day, at IFAT India 2015 experts discussed the qualification needs in the Indian environmental sector. Thus, a series of individual lectures and a panel discussion were held to identify needs and solutions.
Experts on this important topic included Prof. Eldho T.I. from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, Prof. Jürgen Lehmann from the University of Applied Sciences Hof, Dr. Kapil Narula from the CII Triveni Water Institute and Dr. Rashid Hasan from the Indian Environmental Ministry, among others.
